Program: Overcoming Gender Bias in Business and Networking
Speaker: Linda Moore, PhD, President of Linda L. Moore & Associates, and the co-founder and former President of CenterPoint, an out-patient counseling center.
Dr. Moore is a Kansas City based psychologist, author, speaker and management consultant. She is President of Linda L. Moore & Associates, and the co-founder and former President of CenterPoint, an out-patient counseling center. Dr. Moore is known nationally and internationally for her work with women, leadership training, stress management, and human relations. She has authored the book, RELEASE FROM POWERLESSNES: A GUIDE FOR TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE; is an originating member of the Central Exchange; and a founding member of the Metropolitan Organization for Countering Sexual Assault (MOCSA). She has hosted radio and TV talk shows and is currently working on a second book on the psychology of women.
Description:In this 90-minute presentation and workshop format, Dr. Moore will identify and examine the gender obstacles that can deprive women of the opportunity to maximize their business and networking encounters. Not only are women taught to give their power away, but their internal “stops” may interfere with their ability to interact most effectively in the business environment. Attendees will learn how recognizing the external cues of others can lead to more effectual networking as well as enhance how they present themselves in various situations. This is a no-nonsense program of ways to enrich your business, your life, and your networking success through recognition of gender differences – and dealing with them.
We will have light appetizers and cocktails during our networking event. Additionally there will be a showing of various handmade woven garments made by Kristin Pickell, who will be receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fiber and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute in May 2010. Her garments are vibrantly hand-dyed and filled with a variety of pattern and texture. The style of her garments comes from a unique blend of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Her process creates a completely unique length of fabric that she then transforms into a one-of-a-kind garment.
